1. Why Would You Need Holiday Insurance with Motorcycle Cover If You Have a GHIC?
A GHIC (Global Health Insurance Card) gives you access to state-provided healthcare in certain European countries. However, a GHIC shouldn't be considered a replacement for European motorcycle travel insurance.
A GHIC doesn't provide the same protection as travel insurance. For example, it doesn't cover:
- The cost of private medical treatment where necessary, as this is not covered by the GHIC arrangements
- The cost of being brought back to the UK if medically necessary, known as repatriation
- Other unexpected travel costs, such as holiday cancellation and travel delays
2. What Destinations Are Covered Under Travel Insurance for a Motorbike Trip?
Voyager Plus offers cover for motorbike trips across UK, Europe and worldwide. Our cover is divided into four geographic areas to help you select the right level of protection for your route:
UK Only (Area 1)
- Covers England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
- Only for UK residents looking for motorcycling travel insurance for UK motorbike tours.
Europe Cover (Area 2)
- Includes the UK, destinations across Europe, the Channel Islands, Isle of Man, Canary Islands, Madeira and Iceland.
- Some countries and territories are excluded, including Algeria, Libya, Syria and Israel.
Worldwide Cover
If your tour takes you beyond Europe, you'll need motorcycle travel insurance worldwide cover. There are two options to choose from:
- Area 3: Includes all countries in Areas 1 & 2, plus worldwide (excluding North America, the USA, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, the Bahamas, and Bermuda)
- Area 4: Includes all countries in Areas 1, 2 & 3, plus North America, the USA, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, the Bahamas, and Bermuda
3. Does Travel Insurance Cover Motorcycle Gear?
Motorcycle-specific clothing and safety gear such as helmets, boots, and leathers are not covered under the baggage section.
Voyager Plus can still provide cover for your general personal belongings on your motorbike travel insurance to Europe or further afield.
4. Does Voyager Plus Travel Insurance Cover Off-Road Motorcycling?
Yes – but only if you add the motorcycling cover - maximum 7 days guided off-road touring to your policy. You must wear a helmet and hold a full motorcycle licence throughout the trip.
Important: Enduro-riding or other forms of extreme motorcycling are not covered under Voyager Plus

5. Does Motorcycle Trip Insurance Cover Pillion Passengers?
Yes, our motorcycle holiday insurance also covers pillion passengers if they are named on the policy. The rider in control of the bike must hold a valid UK licence.
