- Cancellation: Covers non-refundable travel and accommodation costs, including pre-booked excursions, if you need to cancel.
- Emergency Medical Expenses: Covers emergency medical treatment abroad, including repatriation when medically necessary and piste rescue.
- Baggage: Cover against loss, theft, or damage to your belongings.
- Ski Equipment Cover: Covers your own, borrowed or hired ski equipment if it is lost, stolen or damaged. You can also get cover for hiring replacement equipment if yours can't be used for more than 12 hours.
- Ski Pack Cover: Covers your ski pass, ski hire, or ski school fees, if you’re unable to use following an injury or illness that prevents you from skiing. Cover also apply if your ski pass is lost or stolen.
- Piste Closure Cover: Provides cover if the ski lifts at your resort are closed because of a lack of snow, bad weather or avalanche danger.

2. Do I Need Separate Skiing Travel Insurance?
You don’t necessarily need to take out a separate specialist policy for your skiing holiday. With Voyager Plus, you can get holiday insurance with ski cover by adding optional winter sports cover to your policy. This extends your cover to include skiing and other covered winter sports activities during your trip.
3. Does Travel Insurance Cover Winter Sports Like Off-Piste Skiing?
Yes, Voyager Plus can cover off-piste skiing and snowboarding when you add winter sports cover to your policy.
You must stay within the ski resort boundaries and follow local safety guidelines when taking part in off-piste activities. If these conditions are not met, claims may not be covered and you will potentially be left out of pocket having to foot the bill.
4. Can I Rely on GHIC If I Am Doing Skiing in Europe?
The GHIC (Global Health Insurance Card) gives you access to state-provided healthcare in certain European countries. However, a GHIC is not a substitute for ski holiday insurance, as there are limitations on what it covers.
For example, a GHIC does not cover:
- The cost of private medical treatment where necessary – private medical facilities may be used around ski resorts.
- Piste rescue costs, including helicopter airlifts from the mountain, which can cost thousands of pounds.
- The cost of being brought back to the UK when medically necessary, known as repatriation.
- Other unexpected travel costs, such as trip cancellation, travel delays and lost or damaged baggage.
5. What Destinations Are Covered Under Snowboard or Ski Trip Travel Insurance?
Voyager Plus offers cover for ski and snowboarding trips in the UK, Europe and worldwide. Our cover is divided into four geographic areas to help you select the right level of cover for your trip.
UK Only (Area 1)
- Covers England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
- This area is only available for UK residents
Europe Cover (Area 2)
- Includes the UK, destinations across Europe, the Channel Islands, Isle of Man, Canary Islands, Madeira and Iceland.
- Some countries and territories are excluded, including Algeria, Libya, Syria and Israel.
Worldwide Cover
If your ski trip is beyond Europe, you'll need ski trip insurance with worldwide cover. There are two options to choose from:
- Area 3: Includes all countries in Areas 1 & 2, plus worldwide (excluding North America, the USA, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, the Bahamas, and Bermuda)
- Area 4: Includes all countries in Areas 1, 2 & 3, plus North America, the USA, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, the Bahamas, and Bermuda
