With the world travel industry coming to a grinding halt due to the Coronavirus pandemic, whilst many of us have had to put our current travel plans on hold for the time being, many people are still positively looking towards the near future for when they can next book that well deserved holiday, which we are all likely to need once the travel restrictions are lifted!
Voyager Plus Travel Insurance have sought out these 7 glorious holiday destinations to help you plan your next relaxing or family focused trip.
1) Greece
The food, beaches, the weather and the clear, blue seas tempt many holidaymakers to the Greek islands every year. In Greece there really is a destination to suit every interest and every budget.
If you’re looking for an activity-based holiday for the kids, look no further than Corfu. While still maintaining a humble, authentic and historic feel, Corfu is home to one of Europe’s best waterparks but also offers tourists beautiful mountain hikes, snorkelling in crystal-clear waters and miles of golden beaches. Perfect for both adults and kids alike.
However, if you want a Greek holiday destination that oozes charm and unparalleled scenery, head to Kefalonia, Crete or Rhodes. These destinations are famous for their family-friendly atmosphere and picturesque seaside villages. If you’re a history buff, there’s no better place than Athens, or if you want to experience all that Greece has to offer, why not extend your trip and hop from city to city via ferry or plane!
Perfect for a holiday with the whole family.
2) Barcelona
Barcelona is one of the only destinations in the world that offers the perfect balance of city life with a glorious beach for days spent building sandcastles and sunbathing with the family.
There is plenty to see and do to keep the kids entertained; for a culture kick, visit the Picasso museum where kids and adults alike can learn about the life and history of Picasso.
Barcelona is also home to a staggering 68 parks, but one of most popular to visit is Parc de la Ciutadella where you can hire a rowing boat to take around the lake and stare in awe of the magnificent scenery. If all else fails to amuse the kids, Barcelona is even home to an extensive zoo just a short stroll from the Picasso museum and plenty of Waterlife at the beach front Aquarium.
Great for both couples and families.
3) Dominican Republic
The Dominican Republic is one of the most diverse countries in the Caribbean yet it is often overlooked in comparison to hot spots such as St Lucia and Barbados. The Dominican Republic has got a little bit of everything; beaches, lagoons, mountain peaks and waterfalls are just the tip of the iceberg with what’s on offer in this beautiful country.
If you’re looking for an abundance of restaurants, bars and even a casino, Puerto Plata is the place for you. However, if you’re looking for something more relaxing, Samana is picture-perfect with its footprint – free beaches and sleepy resorts. Punta Cana and La Romana are also popular destinations as it offers the best of both worlds.
4) Japan
Japan has long been an adventurous, exciting and exotic holiday destination. Tokyo’s brightly lit skyscrapers will have you staring in awe at this busy, vibrant city and the districts of Harajuku and Akihabara show off the country's quirkier side. In Japan you will find shops dedicated to video games, manga and anime, plus carts selling bubble tea.
There’s plenty to do away from the cities too. Admire the iconic Mount Fuji, learn about the devastation caused by the atomic bomb that hit Hiroshima and bask in the views of Kyoto’s Instagram-worthy temples and waterfalls.
A great destination for sight-seeing.
5) Jamaica
With the upcoming James Bond film partially being filmed on location in Jamaica, the country could very likely see a surge in visitors to this feel-good island over the coming year.
Jamaica is made up of dreamy white beaches paired with swaying palm trees and a mountainous, jungle-covered interior that’s home to waterfalls and banana plantations. Sound idyllic? That’s only the start of what Jamaica has to offer!
In the capital, Kingston, explore streets packed with colonial buildings and museums, plus you can pay a visit to the haunted mansion, Rose Hall, in Montego Bay if you want a spooky thrill during your visit.
It is worth nothing however that any tours you do embark on should be guided and booked with a reputable company. Whilst Jamaica is a beautiful destination, like many other countries there are areas which can be quite dangerous. So, if you do leave your holiday resort, keep safe and stay clear of dangerous areas.
If you’re a 007 fan and want to experience Bond’s luxury lifestyle, head for Ochos Rios on the north coast and check into the all-butler, all-suite Sandals Royal Plantation. Here you'll find Jamaica’s only Champagne and caviar bar and the most heavenly sea views fit for Bond himself!
The best destination for luxury without the hefty price tag!
6) Dubai
Dubai is a thriving, glamorous, cosmopolitan city with a lot more to offer than just sky scrapers!
Although it is home to one of the only 7-star hotels in the world, Dubai can cater to every size of budget. Getting around by Taxi and the Metro is affordable a there are plenty of authentic cheap eats too. However, if you decide to dine at an upscale restaurant, you won’t be short on choice!
While you’re in town, visiting the Burj Khalifa is a must be on your list as well as going off-roading in the desert, a day trip to Abu Dhabi and visiting the Dubai Mall for an unparalleled shopping experience. It’s been named the second largest mall in the world!
The perfect holiday for mixing sun with shopping.
(7) Los Cabos, Mexico
If you fancy seeing a different side of Mexico on your next break, head straight to Los Cabos, on the country's Baja Peninsula.
There are two big names in the region worth exploring. In Cabo San Lucas, the marina's packed with million-dollar yachts and tourist-ready whale-watching boats. Plus, it's right next to by a busy promenade, lined with seafood restaurants and plenty of gift shops.
The local nightlife scene is great, too. Meanwhile, quieter San José del Cabo has a more authentic feel, with colonial architecture, local art, and a delicious food scene to dive into. Even better, ticking off both is easy. The two resorts are just 20 miles apart, separated by a road littered with world-class golf courses.
Perfect for an adults only holiday of pure indulgence!
