Short haul holidays

If you are considering getting away this Easter but were not wanting to travel too far then you may be looking for a short haul holiday destination. As it happens, there are a lot of fantastic short haul destinations for you to consider this Easter.

Our first suggestion is: The Mediterranean!

Anywhere in the Mediterranean is going to be beautiful this time of year and it won’t be so hot that you feel as if you are melting!

Greece or Croatia

Greece or Croatia are beautiful spots in the Mediterranean for you to consider. Whether you were wanting to go island hopping across the Greek islands or simply enjoy some of the local cuisine, Greece offers a great, budget friendly option for your Easter getaway. With a combination of impeccable food, great weather, beautiful settings, and a superb selection of hotels, there is a lot to love about Greece!

Similarly, Croatia will be just as warm as Greece this Easter with some stunning destinations including Split, Hvar and Dubrovnik. This is a must visit country for the beautiful landscapes, breath taking coastline, and the ancient port town of Dubrovnik which is full of history. You will be in awe of all that is on offer here!

Italy

Italy offers holidays for everyone, whether you were wanting a vineyard tour in Tuscany, or you are still chasing that winter snow in the north of the country (remember to check your Travel Insurance policy covers you for Winter Sports first and if you are covered by Voyager Plus, Winter Sports option is only available to those aged 74 and under). Perhaps you are more interested in a cultural experience in Rome or Pompeii or maybe you would rather relax and enjoy the sights the Amalfi Coast has to offer. If you are struggling with ideas of what to do in Italy, then you may want to consider a gondola ride in Venice or visit the lakes of Garda or Como for a peaceful, tranquil experience. Plus, wherever you go, be sure to try some traditional Italian cuisine, it is exquisite!

If those options are not appealing to you then you could always consider Portugal or Spain.

Portugal or Spain

With temperatures reaching and exceeding the 20oc mark in both countries, you’ll be sure to find some Easter sun and potentially get a tan again (not that I remember what one of those is)! Portugal is perfect for any avid golf fan having become one of Europe’s leading golfing destinations with 31 courses in the Algarve alone! Don’t worry, there is much more to do in Portugal than just play golf, such as, seeing the sights in Madeira or Lisbon or relaxing on the beaches in the Algarve or the Azores.

Spain offers the same tempting temperatures, incredible beach vacations in Tenerife, Marbella or Majorca and beautiful city breaks in Barcelona, Madrid or Seville. If architecture interests you, then you will be well catered for in Spain, with some exquisite architecture on show in all the cities, none more so than Barcelona with the works of Antoni Gaudi as well as gothic churches and wide plazas you will be sure to get an eye full…

France

Which brings us onto France, more specifically Paris, and the Parisian delights on offer in the French capital. Of course, the Eiffel tower is usually the main draw of this city but with great food on offer too and a chance to walk down the famous Champs-Élysées, part of the most famous finishing stage in cycling, the Tour de France, what’s not to love? Paris is perfect for couples looking for a romantic getaway or for a foody looking to try some local delicacies and you can easily visit here for a long weekend if you were just hoping to get away for a few days.

Canary Islands

Last on our list of destination suggestions is the Canary Islands. Although the journey here would not technically be classed as short haul, the Canary Islands are still reachable in 4.5 hours and are home to some incredible beaches for you to enjoy on your holiday. On arrival, you will be greeted with near enough year-round lovely weather, incredible wildlife, and even volcanoes to explore. There is certainly plenty more to do here than just enjoy the spectacular beaches!

We hope wherever you choose to go and whatever you decide to do, that you have a superb Easter and enjoy finally being able to travel again!
