European Breakdown Cover
Posted in General on 23 June 2011
While the economic conditions remain difficult many people are opting to holiday in Europe, saving further by taking their own vehicle abroad.
A travel insurance policy, such as Voyager Travel Insurance will cover your medical expenses, among other things, while you are overseas in Europe, it will not cover you if you take you car or motorbike abroad and breakdown.
For this you need Voyager to Europe: European Breakdown Cover. This policy insures you against additional costs incurred on your holiday if your vehicle breaks down while you are away.
Before you start your journey abroad you are covered in case something happens to the insured vehicle that means it cannot be used or repaired in time for your trip. In this case we will provide you with a hire car for you to complete your holiday abroad.
While on your holiday if you are unfortunate enough to break down or have an accident en route to your destination our European breakdown policy will provide roadside assistance and towing through Green Flag’s European network. If your car cannot be fixed by the road then it will be towed to the nearest approved garage for repairs. Please note however that this policy does not cover the cost of the repairs themselves.
If your vehicle cannot not be fixed by the side of the road and has to be taken to garage to be repaired then our European Breakdown Cover policy will also either transport you to your destination, put you up in accommodation while your vehicle is fixed or cover you to hire a car up to the amount in the benefits schedule.
If your vehicle cannot be repaired by the time you are due to come back then you will be covered for it either to be recovered and transported back to the UK, or for you to travel and collect it.
Voyager to Europe breakdown cover is available here on a single trip or annual multi-trip basis and covers vehicles up to 10 years old. Vehicles up to 15 years old can be covered on a single trip basis.
